The short trail - Waterbury

So we headed up north, about an hour or so from home.

Charlie still in his bathers.

The rain made the colors rich and the ground soggy.

We discovered fairy trees, edible plants and animal shelters.

We were talking too much to hear the birds but I'm sure they heard us.

Orchids and taking a vacation at home

Well yes, I am feeling a little pissy.

A vacation.

Places I would like to be now.

Melbourne, Rome, the Orkney's, Paris, The South West.....

Sailing a ship, riding a train, driving a car far, far away.

I am here.

I bought a book - day hikes in Vermont.

Today we went to Eshqua Bog and discovered Lady Slippers in bloom.

It was amazing and magical.

It was twenty minutes from my house.

I feel like painting again.

Peony's and produce.

You've got to love the way peony's begin as a tight little ball and then proceed with warmth and light to explode into big fluffy flowers. Fantastic!

market time

It's Market season again. Come rain or shine! This is our tenth year running our bakery stand. I remember our first year with a card table and a couple of baskets full of food and a baby of course - Marion was only a few months old at the time. Now ten years later, we are 'a well oiled machine', as The Baker likes to refer to us, we bring a load of food and two children, no babies.

I love the market. Life is simple at the market. We set up, we sell out, we go home, yes, every week but we also see friends and watch the seasons through the different produce. It's peony season right now and there are plenty of greens but no sugar snaps (waiting, waiting....) We buy yarn for sweaters and cheese that reminds me of home (Australia that is) and meat that is so so good.
